The MARS Project was devoloped by Ares Arms subsidiary Stoner-Ares Weapon Systems in an attempt to capture the bio-weapon market with knowledgeable and effective soldiers at an affordable cost. Type Null is the prototype of the project, and has been engaged in testing for years.

In the end, Type Null lost out to the Alpha. Their projectlead was certain they could impove upon Null's design, and spent what remaing funding they had into fixing Null. Halfway though the process the lead caught wind of what was happening inside Ares with the Alphas, and sent Type Null into the world to eventually combat the bug threat plaguing the corp.
