Summary

Gigs convinces Crazy-8 that helping ghouls get fed will be beneficial and lays a potential foundation for Skraacha co-operation as a bonus.

Background

See Who Can Say No To This Face, Part 1 for the overall goal. Crazy-8 can be a valuable sponsor.

The Meet

Miles, the logistics head of the Crab Cake Operation informs a way in for Crazy Eight and arranging a meeting, his secretary Wu. Wu had an assistant called Veronica who went missing in Auburn and Wu can act as a Johnson; the reward will be a meeting with Crazy Eight later.

The Plan

Gigs doesn't want her movements to be completely predictable. She sends out a call for backup to mix things up and Surtr happens to get the info first, attending Gigs-- or this would've happened if gangers hadn't ambushed Surtr and broken the Ford Americar's tires. Thankfully, Surtr's magical abilities are able to fend the ambush off with relative ease. Gigs arrives with her bike, retrieves Surtr and uses her GLL connections via "I Know A Guy" to get the broken car towed and installed with new Run-Flats later.

The Run

The investigative part begins by meeting Wu who shares basic details. Last known location, visuals, et cetera. Gigs and Surtr head to Auburn to investigate and Gigabite manages to cause enough of a distraction in the local pachinko parlor to grab a pachinko machine's lever which looked like it might've been in contact with Veronica. Surtr spots astral anomalies nearby and Gigabite searches the site pointed out to her, finding a flattened hollow-point bullet behind a trash can. She takes these to Repo Man who psychometrizes them and discovers a potential Skraacha connection as well as a likely direction for Veronica's escape. Up north.

Surtr's spirits shave off entire days from the search repeatedly, their Search power allowing the duo to find Veronica in a pizza place in west Everett. Due to a ward, Gigs is the only one that heads in and asks Surtr to wait outside as possible back-up if things go wrong. She manages to convince the man keeping Veronica hidden and safe to talk to her after assuring that she's not with the Skraacha and out to get the girl. Veronica and Gigs have a chat and Midas offers to get the Skraacha off her back so she can return to work. Veronica's unconvinced, but is willing to let Gigs try it.

Finding Skraacha in Redmond isn't hard. Finding Derek is relatively fast and Gigs and Derek engage in a little chat. While it's a difficult, disadvantageous position she's in, she manages to twist the facts to suit her situation, convincing the ork that by aiding Gigabite and letting Crazy Eight stay in Auburn for now, she can establish a logistics chain that feeds the local ghoul populace. Weakening the 162s, draining their ranks of people with no other choice and exposing all their former turf for Skraacha takeover and overall easier movements for the Skraacha gangers' families without as much fear of being kidnapped at night, the Skraacha gain more than they lose by sacrificing a few months of profits in Auburn. Derek agrees and calls off the manhunt on Veronica.

Aftermath

Wu is astonished and arranges a meet with Crazy Eight and Gigabite. With him, Gigs can't use the same tactics, so instead she refers to the upcoming mayoral elections and that if he participates in solving ghoul attacks and reducing their strength, he can then lend his participation as a political campaign boon for any patron he wants to support. Getting a window to join someone's campaign and immerse in the power that lends him, Crazy Eight could expand further. If he's proven to have aided in reducing ghoul attacks and be a humanitarian, he can earn both votes from Mothers of Metahumans and GLL supporters as well as white picket fence Humanis people wanting ghouls to not attack innocents. This can then make him a convincing ally to certain mayoral candidates that want to use that kind of achievement as propaganda for their own popularity in elections. Crazy Eight likes the ambition of the giant in front of him and agrees to lend some of his resources to Miles' operation, even partly in other countries.

Surtr

It was a pleasure to work with Ms. Bite. It's nice to meet other infected that aren't assholes. Their goals align heavily with mine, just with different paths to get there. I'd like to work with her again some day, but perhaps I'm too far out of their league to be any real help. Wherever I can, I'd like to help achieve a goal of having a strong infected community that doesn't require killing non infected or spreading the infection...

Gigabite

I'll admit, the four-arm wasn't someone I expected to work alongside. Haven't met 'em before and... I feel like they felt a little attached, in a sense. Maybe it's the ol' charm rearing up again?~ I'd have felt guilty if I'd accepted it, no questions asked, just like that. Considering what we had to do with Six just a day prior, I'd feel horrible. Still, had the right attitude. Screw the job, it was just nice working with someone so goals-oriented. Less worried about the means, more about the ends. Sometimes that leads to dark places. Here, it was nothing but positives.
