GM Style Sheet
I'll be honest, I am still relatively new to GMing Shadowrun, although I've run things in other settings before. I can't say I have a developed style within the setting just yet, but here are some things to expect stylistically:
- I will do my best to be flexible in responding to unconventional angles of attack on the problems I give you, and I will endeavor to reward clever, out-of-the-box, or exceptionally fun plans
- Ask questions. NPCs might know more than they volunteer, and good legwork goes a long way in preparing you for a job.
- Negotiation - I do allow players to get bonus pay over and beyond the normal run RVP for good negotiations, as well as getting their rewards an alternate form (like gear if the Johnson has reason to be able to get it, or CDP if the Johnson could do a favor for one of your contacts)
- The Rule of Cool is in play, but it doesn't entirely protect you from your own bad decisions. Clever and cool will probably get you a better success than clever and boring, but stupid and cool plans will be a crapshoot: they could succeed amazingly, or they could fail spectacularly.
- Consequences: I will do my best to make sure that the actions you take will alter what possibilities are available to you as the run goes on.
I, like everyone else, use the Global X-card policy, meaning that the word "X-card" serves as a universal safe word, and messaging it to me (or a mod) will end whatever scene is going on.
I generally expect players at my table to:
- Indicate in their app if they are likely to walk from the run, so I can plan for the possibilty
- Not try and screw over the rest of the team in any way that will lead to genuine bad blood between players, or seriously disrupt the run (unless they stated the possibility of it happening in their app).
- Be okay with serious and dark themes. The 6th world is not a pretty place and sometimes bad things happen.
- Do your best to keep the table from getting too fucked up. I am okay with you torturing a captive because you failed your first Intimidation check, but it shouldn't be your plan A, and I don't need to hear detailed description of how you go about it
- Feel comfortable using the X-card, it's better to use it relatively early and it not be an issue than let something get far out of hand.
