Growing up as the only child of a Yakuza Lieutenant was very good for her. She went to the best schools, had the best things, was afforded the best opportunities. She knew that she would never take a role like her father's, but that didn't stop her from becoming an expert swordswoman. She learned her ways around the social structures of the criminal world, as well. By the time she was 20, she could out work, out think, and out fight almost all of her father's underlings.


Always she seeks to improve her skills. She left the Military behind, but wants to work as a contractor. Shadowhaven is becoming her way into that life. She hopes to one day acquire a reputation to rival her father. Not out of malice but to move out form under his shadow.
Because of her father's standing, being a woman was not a hinderance. True, it would have been near impossible for her to reach the position her father was at, but that was not her destiny.

When she was 22, her father was killed. He insulted the boss of a smaller clan, and they ambushed and killed him. They believed the structure and order of the Watada-rendo alliance would keep them safe. That the insult paid to their Oyabun was settled by the death of Ichijo. Hatano had other plans.
Kate was born in Charleston, South Carolina. Her father was an Admiral in the CAS Navy and former Captain of an SSVN, and her mother served in the CAS Airforce. Kate joined the CAS Navy when she was 17. Initially, she signed up as a Navy Diver, but her high aptitude and technical skills opened up more dangerous jobs. She volunteered for the SEALs when she was 19, completing training a year later.


She once got to participate in a PR exchange program where she and 11 others went to Moscow for 3 months. She learned new fighting styles from the Red Army, and picked up some specialized skills there.
The next few days earned her the nickname "The Demon Mori". She, along with some of her father's closer friends, took vengeance into their own hands. The smaller clan was decimated. Their legacy was completely removed by a single woman's vengeance. It was during this time that her powers attracted the great spirit of War. It was that night her legacy of blood and death began.


When she was 29, she became infected with HMHVV III. Her team boarded a vessel that had gone dark off the coast of Virginia. Turns out everyone onboard was a ghoul. Out of 8 SEALS that went in, 2 came out. Her PO1, who was fine, and Kate, who had been exposed. She fought off the infection but became a carrier. It made her sort of a pariah, but allowed her to become more specialized, being able to fight those infected with the Krieger Strain without the risk of consequence.
Knowing that she could not stay in Tokyo after that, she travelled to America to become a soldier of fortune. She made a good name for herself. She also developed more of her awakened skills during this time. Her raw power was tempered into precise skills. She still very much relied on her own strength of body and will. She grew physically as well as magically.


She had a long and prestigious career in the Navy. She achieved the rank of PO1, retiring after 20 years of service. Her constant desire to strive for greatness led her to acquire more and more cyber and bioware. She has sculpted her body to have many subtle but important enhancements. Anything she lacks she makes up for with her skills and training.
Soon after leaving Neo-Tokyo she was contacted by someone who might help her on her path into the Shadows. The Huk boss Bautista is always looking out for potential assets. Someone such as Hatano, with a chip on her shoulder already, might prove useful. She has no more ties to Japan, and could care less what happens to it. So why not cause a little mayhem and chaos to those who wronged her?

She bears numerous small scars from her service, but one stands out. A jagged claw scar extends from the base of her neck to her shoulder. This is where a ghoul grabbed her and cut along the top plate of her armor through the Kevlar. It healed, but left a very prominent scar. This can be seen if she wears a t-shirt. It can just barely be seen over the collar of an armored jacket or dress coat.

Kate in Full Body Armor looks like a typical CAS military Special Operator. The only insignia she carries is a small CAS flag patch on her shoulder. Loaded out, she has her FN HAR and grenade launcher on slings, microgrenades and ammunition strapped to her rig.
Her custom Sleeping Tiger is a special order piece from Vashon Island. It is a grey and white kimono that blends traditional looks with modern functions. It was acquired through Asahiro Kunitoshi as a gift, with "Surely no strings attached...".  


Kate wears her old CAS dog tags usually, unless the job is REALLY sensitive. In addition to the two that are normally there, she has a red one that says "CARRIER" on one side, and "HMHVV III" on the other.

Her armor and clothes is always heavily influenced by traditional Japanese styles.

Her custom Sleeping Tiger is a special order piece from Vashon Island. It is a grey and white kimono that blends traditional looks with modern functions. It was acquired through Asahiro Kunitoshi as a gift, with "Surely no strings attached...".

Her FBA is also similarly styled.
