Character Information

Summary

A young man from the poorest corner of Redmond Barrens managed to stay away from addiction and crime and to get a college education as a hostage negotiator. But, he doesn't have the papers to prove it. So, getting a job with a security firm is impossible. He just recently discovered that he is awakened. The Shadows are soon to embrace him.

Background

Grew up in a hispanic block in Redmond and has lived there all his life. His parents were constantly high on drugs, so no one would be surprised that they accidentally enrolled him in a christian hispanic kindergarten as he was a baby. His parents didn't have any association to Spanish, except that their drug-dealer was from South America and had a notable accent. The lack of role models at home made Gulliver turn to good people within the church community in the search for mentors.
His parents both died within weeks of each other as he was 11 and he was forced to choose between "crack" or "crack the books". He decided to be great in school instead of persuing a career as a street corner pharmasist with the "high" potential of swift promotion to gutter zombie.
The catholic school served a meal a day for those who went to class. Week-Ends and holidays were brutal starvation with an occational BBQ rat feast when he managed to snipe a rat in the basement.

As he grew, he rarely had time for trouble because he was studying all the time. After high-school, he didn't have the money for tuition but went to college anyway. He snuck into lectures and managed to deceive everyone that he belonged there. He completed the curriculum for hostage and chrisis negotiators. He just never got a diploma, or other credentials, nor did he ever pay a single Nooj for tuition.

Without papers, he can't get his dream-job as negotiatior for a high ranking law enforcement organization. He currently waits tables in Touristville and volunteers at his church's chrisis hotline while he tries to figure out how to escape the barrens.

Recently, he discovered that he's awakend and magically inclined. He spoke to his pastor about this and was put in contact with a Catholic Knights Order to be vetted to see if has what it takes to become a member. He apreciates what he learns during "retreats", but doesn't feel well around the members of the order. "They are so fanatic."
Instead of turning to the knight's order to discuss the spirituallity of magic, Gulliver has found comfort in speaking to the Jamaican musician Prince Robert (Bob) Selassie about the topic. Bob is frequently high on awakened weed. The conversations are both deep and profund.

Narrative Significant Qualities

Positive

Magician, Obeah:
Just recently discovered his magical inclinations, talked about it with his pastor and was immediately put in contact with a catholic order of knights to learn to control his powers and be vetted to se if he "fits their specs".
Bilingual, English and Spanish:
Gulliver grew up in a spanish speaking block in Redmond and his English speaking parents were too high to realize they had enrolled him into a spanish speaking christian kindergarden. I think they never realized it and am certain they wouldn't have cared.
For Gulliver, this was a blessing. The nannies at the kindergaden took good care of him and the christian community has kept watchful eye on him and influenced him to not derail while growing up.
College Education:
After graduating from high-school, he snuck into college lectures and finished the curriculum for high treat hostage negotiators. Since he never registered, nor paid tuitions, he doesn't have any grades, nor diploma.
Steely Eyed Wheelman:
The only way to afford going out with his fellow students was to be the dedicated sober driver while the others got drunk and paid his cover-fees and soft-drinks. Cop-students are known to be the worst law-breakers, so they often got into "situations" they had to escape from quickly. This was how Gulliver realized his natural talent for driving.

Clothing

Tries to look proper and professional. Good enough for Redmond, but too cheap for downtown. Gotta get a shadow-job and start climbing the latter. Shirts are allways ironed with starch, shoes allways well polished, hair allways gut, face allways shaven. Clean. Has added small details to the his attire which don't look expensive but really raise the mood and show that he's not ignorant to commonly accepted business attire, just too broke to fit in perfectly.
