Declining?
Don't decline the job and leave the game, please, as that puts me on the spot and leaves the team short a member. However, if the team collectively agree they don't want to take the job, but instead, they want to prevent it from being completed, then that's fine. If there's agreement with the team, and they still plan to interact with the run, then while I might have to spend some time furiously replanning, that is fine and should lead to interesting stuff.
Derailing?
Depends on the rest of the team. If the team is in agreement, then yeah, sure, but let's not derail the run if the rest of the team is against it. Also, I will have "outs" on some of the more morally objectionable ones, where you can discreetly show the target mercy or even turn against the Johnson.
Failure?
I won't deliberately make the team fail, but I will try to challenge the team at higher threats, and make them actually think about what they're doing. At low/medium, failiure will be possible but not likely, but once you get into high, the team will need to contend with genuine challenges.
The Little things
A Hook's A Hook
I'll do my best to integrate character qualities into my sessions. This will heavily depend on prep time and the rest of the group, but if you have wanted, or flashbacks, or legendary rep, don't be surprised if they bite you in the ass or help you out.
People Are People
If you're a team of runners facing some petty gangers, are taking them out in one punch and taking bullets like they're nothing, the gangers will surrender. Corpsec will fall back, HTR will tactically retreat to an advantageous position, and there's a point at which even hardened veterans flee the field.
It's Serious
Shadowrun is a serious world, populated with horrible things and daily cruelties. This will not come up in every run by far, but do not be surprised
Rule of Cool
While I might occasionaly include very serious topics, I will also prioritise the fun of the team. If the team wants to do some crazy, over the top plan to steal a bagel, go ahead. If their interpretation of "Steal some data" is driving a truck full of devil rats through the front door and just walking into the data stores while the guards scramble to contain the rats, and the fire, and the wounded civilians, sounds great! But the team will have to get the devil rats themselves.
