Background
Reaper was born in the UCAS as Elyena Grimm, to parents that were both corp SINners for the EVO corporation. She was put up as an early age for some experimental procedures which turned out to be Evo's research into how to cause SURGE. It succeeded, and she wound up looking like a white furred feline, and her fate was pretty well sealed. She was put in for a fairly extensive series of cyber and bioware treatments to make her the best combatant they could manage, and then given the choice between joining the SSD or the YNT marine division. Since there was a better chance of being deployed, she went Marines.
It wasn't a bad gig, getting sent from one place to another, doing dirty jobs to protect Evo interests, never really questioning her purpose. At least up until her platoon was sent to a small village that was protesting a black site that had been put up recently. She didn't find out until after arriving that their mission was to search and destroy everyone in the village. Needless to say, this didn't sit well with her, and she managed to eliminate her leutenant and one of the other Marines before they could react, but without the element of surprise, she quickly found herself getting driven back, and forced to retreat. She ran out of road at the top of a cliff high above a river, and was given a choice: Face the weapons of her comrades, and definitely die, or jump, and only maybe die. Despite her fear of heights, she took the slim chance of survival, and jumped.
Her aim was a bit off, and she wound up crashing through the forest canopy far below, breaking her arm, before splashing into the river. The search team presumed her dead after an extensive search, despite her body unable to be found. The current swept her far downstream, where she experienced what could only be called a religious experience, as she lingered on the razor's edge between life and death. It could have been nothing more than a hallucination brought on by lack of oxygen, or maybe there really was someone or something out there, watching over her. Regardless of whether what she saw was real or not, it changed her outlook on life. No more would the thought of Death terrify her, because Reaper realized that she was a loving and caring god, that wanted nothing more than to see her succeed for as long as her strength held out, and she'd been spared to lend her strength to others. After all, the more people she could help thrive, the more would be born, and the more who would, eventually, inevitably, find their way into Death's warm and welcoming embrace.
With her new purpose thus discovered, she found the strength to drag herself out of the river, and after some time, Reaper managed to make her way back to the UCAS with her stolen gear. Once back, she did a few odd jobs, mostly to earn the nuyen to properly disappear, and get treatment for her injuries, and then disappeared into the Barrens, where her story would continue!
