"Ми дякуємо вам, о Моноліт,
що ви розкрили нам хитрі плани ваших ворогів.
Нехай ваше світло засяє на душі відважних солдатів,
які віддали своє життя за службу вашій волі.
Надалі, воїни Моноліту. Помстять за загиблих братів,
благословенних, як вони у вічному союзі з Монолітом.
Приносять смерть тим, хто відвертає святу силу Моноліту."
-- Vic during her time as one of the Preachers of the Monolith
Background
Originating from Finland, "Vic" was one of many lured into the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone of the Sixth World after hearing rumors of riches that could turn anyone's life around. Whatever happened there didn't treat most fortune-seekers well and Vic was no exception. Basic conscript training didn't prepare her for the cult madness and inexplicable magical phenomena that she witnessed. Captured and indoctrinated for years, she spent time on both sides of local conflicts as a prisoner to be interrogated and as a fanatical, brainwashed zealot fighting for a cause she barely even comprehended.
An unknown good samaritan bought her out of a makeshift prison for chump change and paid to smuggle her across the world, presumably in hopes that she'd never return to that hellhole of a region. Equipped with advanced, high-tech weaponry and military training, Vic's talents naturally lend her to running shadows as a combat specialist. The downside is that traces of her cultist days still linger in her mind, leaving her mostly emotionless, amoral and eerily glassy-eyed whenever she's not in the thick of combat. Whispers of some object of worship reach the ears of her colleagues -- not the first or the last runner to be a little unhinged, so something most don't pay any attention to.
Now that she's stuck in Seattle, trying to eke out a living as a foreigner, Vic's adjusted reasonably well to her new occupation. She bears no prejudice toward anyone or anything and her calm disposition helped her find a relatively safe place to stay in the Ork Underground beneath Bellevue. For now, she's satisfied just by staying alive, but sooner or later she'll need to figure out what the hell happened to her, what the blank spaces in her memory are and what all of the nightmares mean. She needs information, friends in high places and a small army. All of these require money, so that's what she'll have to aim for.
As long as she keeps that massive cannon of hers aimed at corpsec, most are glad to have an experienced sharpshooter on their side.
Narrative Significant Qualities
Distinctive Style - A distinct jumpsuit and a flak jacket clearly designed for paramilitary operations is a dead giveaway. Doubly so since it doesn't match any faction in America.
Restricted Gear - A gauss rifle unlike any model made by megacorporations travels practically anywhere that Vic does. It's her most prized possession and presumably a keepsake from her past. Punches holes in things, but who made it?
Combat Monster - Warriors of the Monolith often enter a trance of chanting prayers when in combat. They're taught to have ironclad determination to kill anyone and anything threatening them and that part of her brainwashing is still intact, leading her to easily stay far past her welcome in gunfights. Even when odds turn against her favor, she will continue with her fingernails and teeth if stripped of anything else.
Insomnia - Nightmares of the horrors she witnessed in the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone still plague her, something that causes her to wake up often in the middle of the night. Sleeping is a big issue.
Thousand-Yard Stare - Monolith are known to be monotone, expressionless living machines whose only emotion is fanaticism in serving their 'god' -- Although she's no longer mind controlled, such treatment lingers in Vic.
Trilingual - Vic speaks Finnish, Russian and English, possibly lending her a role as a translator when dealing with Russian elements of the underworld. (Not an in-game quality, only a narrative property.)
Monolithian - A combination of Code of Honor: Thug Life and Candle In The Darkness, Vic's become a living legend that boosts the name of her gang just by virtue of being herself. She flies the colors of the Monolith for a new purpose now, far from what she used to be once upon a time.

Symbols and Signatures
Silhouette of a head orbited by three electrons -- the insignia of a European cult of fanatics and a memento of her past.
Cult Prayers:
"We thank you, oh Monolith, for revealing the cunning plans of your enemies to us. May your light shine down on the souls of the brave soldiers who gave their lives in service to your will. Onward, warriors of the Monolith. Avenge your fallen brothers, blessed as they are in their eternal union with the Monolith. Bring death to those who spurn the holy power of the Monolith."
"We know what this world hungers for but we will complete our destination regardless. We will protect the Monolith. He will return and rejoice. He will rejoice. We will rejoice."
"Return to your wayward children, oh Monolith."
"The Monolith is light and knowledge, knowledge and light. He will return, he will. He will. He will. He will."
"Your children are waiting for you, oh Monolith. Your wisdom, your power, your light."
"Let my path come to an end. I come to you, oh Monolith."
"I pray to never turn away your light, oh Monolith. Give heed to me and spring my traps upon my enemies."
"What terrible wonders must I sow, oh Monolith?"
"Let enemies of the Monolith become like dust before the wind."
Vic has a tendency to write or recite these religious chants often, leaving various quotations scribbled on people's bodies or carved into a brick wall with her knife.
SINs
Katie Richards - Rating 4, Saeder-Krupp; It was as American of a name as she could find. A very good fit in most aspects, too, though her Finnish accent is hard to hide.
Matrix Search Table
Threshold | Result |
---|---|
1 | Translated from Russian, the word means 'evergreen.' |
3 | Blurry security footage of a figure in digital camouflage, olive flak vest and high tech weaponry. Rumored to be a militant insurgent terrorizing Seattle and causing mass destruction. |
6 | Video footage from Redmond, the same figure is kneeling on top of a water tower and firing an energy weapon at a VTOL flying in the distance. With a single shot, the vehicle detonates into a fireball. Further searching reveals it to be a recent arrival, having struck against several corporations with devastating consequences. Many megacorporations have advised VTOL pilots to keep an eye out for the individual when flying in the sprawl's airspace; apparently they have a penchant for destroying aircraft. |
Shadow Community Table
Threshold | Result |
---|---|
1 | Foreigner from Chernobyl. Wears full body armor and wields a giant cannon as a weapon. Known to have ties with the Skraacha. |
3 | Known to bust out fellow runners and can be trusted to never abandon a comrade in a fight. On several accounts, she's stayed behind and fought High Threat Response teams with fanatical zeal to let her team exfil. |
5 | Aims to create a shadowy assassination organization to keep the slums of Redmond and Puyallup from being completely dominated by crime organizations. Often favors non-infected and has mentioned suffering from some amnesia. Apparently was once part of a toxic cult and still bears some brainwashing from those days, triggered when she enters adrenaline-fueled situations. Her gauss rifle is custom made and is almost legendary in its ability to destroy anything it strikes. Bounties for getting her weapon have circulated some black market hosts. |
