Character Information
Summary
Kairi "Lumina" Imamura was once an EVO (formerly Yamatetsu) test subject for a super soldier project. She is a Shadowrunner with a sense of morality (aka. Hooder). She specializes in melee combat and social interactions.
Goals
To hone her skills to become the best she could possibly be, as a street samurai. She wishes to protect the freedom of herself and her colleagues above all else.
Background
Roughly twenty years ago, a Yamatetsu facility in Japan was working on a special super soldier project, after acquiring captive Shifters. They took aspects of Shifter DNA to fuse some of their strengths and traits with human subjects. Most of these tests had failed horribly, though for each failure, the facility would learn from their mistakes, adjusting and adapting to changes needed in order to make the creation work. One of their employees, Hitori Imamora, was used to supply a copy of her human DNA for creating a new life required for the super soldier project. Combining a mix of stable aspects from varying Shifter types, Yamatetsu would finally discover their breakthrough. The result was the prototype subject, Kairi Imamura, who was 'born' (created) at the facility on February 25th, 2063.
With the result being a success, Kairi had several unique traits that set her apart from the standard human. She inherited an aquatic-type shifter's ease of movement in water, the adrenaline matching the ferocity of a bear-type shifter, along with a significantly heightened pain tolerance that rivaled a savage beast. Her resistance to diseases and toxins were also extraordinarily much higher than the average human. From this point on, Kairi became nothing more than a lab rat, being tested on various aspects for the years that followed, even after Yamatetsu's transition into becoming EVO.
Hitori, who had grown fond of the daughter she now had, would be responsible for raising Kairi outside of testing phases, in order to secure a somewhat 'stable' childhood growing up. However, Hitori's guidance and motherly care was a stark contrast to the cold and calculating corps who would put Kairi through combat training and strict EVO disciplinary measures to ensure her loyalty. This gradually led to a clash of philosophies between Kairi's mother, Hitori, and the corps who were in charge of the super soldier project. Hitori encouraged Kairi to have independent thought, morale, and empathy, while the corps in charge of the project didn't want any of that, and simply wanted Kairi as an obedient slave.
When Kairi came to adulthood (at 18), EVO was impressed with all of the test results and data they had gathered from her in all the years prior. They were confident that Kairi's DNA was stable to be replicated safely into more subjects, but they wanted to ensure that Kairi would serve only EVO. To accomplish this, EVO had plans to completely take over Kairi's life, even if that meant eliminating the mother that instilled a sense of morality in her. Hitori would catch wind of what EVO was planning, and she became desperate. She couldn't afford to simply let her gifted daughter fall into the shadows of EVO's corruption forever, who saw Kairi as nothing more than a pet. She had seen enough, and it was time to take action.
Hitori had secretly hired a band of Shadowrunners to strike the EVO facility, and rescue Kairi. She wanted the Shadowrunners to get her to safety, and be given a chance at life. She wanted them to take Kairi far away from the facility, so that meant hiring Shadowrunners from outside of Japan. They were hired from Seattle to make that trip, and when the runners did show up, they caught the facility off guard. In the midst of the chaos, the shadowrunner team would rescue not only Kairi, but encouraged Hitori to get to safety as well, as they didn't want to risk their Miss Johnson to be killed by EVO for betraying them.
Confused but relieved, Kairi was more than happy to be free of that cursed facility. With the Shadowrunners successful in their task, Kairi and Hitori would be taken back with them to Seattle, far away from the facility's reach, though EVO would never stop tracking Kairi. Due to the dangers of EVO's sheer power and reach across the world, Kairi and Hitori had to live in the shadows. For the next two years that passed, Kairi would forge a new life, in order to prepare herself for future conflicts. Thanks to the Shadowrunners who rescued her before, she became inspired by them, and the freedom they stood for.
And so, Kairi would become a Shadowrunner herself. She believed it was time to put her capabilities to good use, and to fight for a much more meaningful cause. She took on the alias called 'Lumina', to represent a light in a darkened world.
Narrative Significant Qualities
Positive
Prototype Transhuman : She was a successful prototype for a super soldier project, created in 2063 at a Yamatetsu facility in japan. She has escaped the clutches of EVO since, but they strongly desire to capture her.
Biocompability (Cyberware) : Her increased resilience and immense pain tolerance as a prototype project gave her a much greater affinity for tolerating cyberware. The results almost feel natural to her.
Negative
Wanted (By EVO, alive for 50,000 Nuyen) : EVO wants her. They refuse to let a successful super soldier project roam free without them able to get their hands on her.
Code of Honor (Warrior's Code) : Lumina has a strong sense of morality and honor. She believes in direct, respectful confrontations, and would rather use violence as a last resort. It's clear she has a strong sense of empathy for others.
One Born Every Minute : She can be somewhat naive.
