Background

Savo is not a fun place to live in the Sixth World. The Bible Belt southern states equivalent of Finland, it's full of remote towns full of hicks that most people wouldn't really miss if they just disappeared into thin air. And yet, that's where Taru was born for better or for worse. Getting early on in trouble, she not only had a government stipend to go study but squandered it when she fell in love as a stupid nineteen-year old girl and ran off with her girlfriend into the forests of Central Finland. There, they took shelter for the night in an abandoned bunker and woke up to one of them being eaten alive by emaciated feral ghouls. The event was traumatic enough for Taru's magical powers to Awaken and her first action was to demolish every one of the infected with the wave of her hand.

This supercharged Slash has since become her signature technique in her line of work as a hardboiled investigator of magical crime, hauntings, anomalies and disappearances. After work in Finland dried up and provided no fruit, Taru flew overseas to Seattle, a veritable hotspot of astral activity. Here, life is dangerous and far more insufferable compared to how calm it was back home, buuut there's also a lot of work to be had. Government pension, some excitement and plenty of experiences. None of it takes the pain of losing her first love away, but at least the smoking and drinking helps a little bit.

Significant Things for Narrative

• Prototype Magician - Entirely accidental, Taru was meant to be a designer baby with as little side effects as possible while still integrating the latest discoveries in bioware research. While not all too successful, she Awakened later during a traumatic even in her teen years, which has allowed her to leverage her abilities further than before thanks to her augmentations.
• Trust Fund - Due to her Awakening as a designer child, she's been given some special treatment from the Finnish government. She has a lifelong pension as long as she stops by for the occasional DNA sample and medical check-up, even when living overseas. Only, that's not gonna last long if they find out she's been doing crime!
• Day Job - She's an investigator. Specialized in magical cases, Wychking's title is linked directly to hustling spirits, strongarming the Awakened and finding answers. Murders, hauntings, you name it.
• Betel Addiction - Her corpgum comes in cigarettes, not chewing gum, but it's all the same since she's a habitual smoker of the stuff. It's like crack... but at least it doesn't get any worse.
